In the Pensacola area, there are many marine repair shops competing for your business, trying to provide the best possible service they can provide. Despite the competition, the marine service industry in Pensacola remains a close knit family. Many of our area’s technicians are classmates, co-workers, friends and family of each other.
As some of you may be aware, one of our local marine repair shops, BGS Marine, on Navy Blvd. in Pensacola, suffered a total loss as a fire broke out in their main service shop after hours. Everything inside the building was lost: tools, toolboxes and boats, nine of which were inside the building and three outside of the building. Fortunately, there was no loss of life, as all their employees had gone home for the night.
Unfortunately, technician tools are not covered under the dealership’s insurance. As Stefan Schmitt of George Stone Technical College said on Friday’s Boat Smart podcast, which airs every Friday on AM1620 WNRP, purchasing insurance for tech tools is like purchasing renter’s insurance. If the property owned by the landlord, in this case the dealership, suffers a loss, their property insurance will not cover the loss of tools.
Here at Key Marine Center, we care about our community, especially the marine industry. We know how important it is to have the right tools to complete the job. A technician is nothing without the proper set of tools.
That is why we are partnering with George Stone Technical College to raise funds for the service technicians at BGS Marine. All funds collected will go to the technicians to help purchase new tools. Key Marine will be donating $1,000.00 to the cause. Any donations are appreciated and can be dropped off at our facility, or you can Venmo them to @Dustin Parriman using the QR code below.
We sincerely appreciate and thank everyone who is able to donate. To the team at BGS, we offer our thoughts and prayers to you during this difficult time.
